The Event

This very special black tie event is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and enjoy one of the world’s greatest basses, singing just for you and your guests.

Sir Willard White, famed for his enormous, rich voice and powerful stage presence has been a regular performer on all the greatest stages, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; the Metropolitan Opera, New York and at the Glyndebourne Festival.

The added sparkle of the magnificent Magdala Chorus - a 30 strong opera chorus, who delight audiences wherever they appear with their very own take on the best-loved songs from opera and musical theatre, will ensure this is an evening to remember.

The charming surroundings of Goosedale Conference and Banqueting Suite, Papplewick give an added elegance to the evening. Guests can enjoy a champagne drinks reception in the Crystal Hall followed by a three course dinner served in the Ivory Banqueting Suite.

Fundraising

Magdala is a charity, wholly dependent on grants, sponsorship and generous donations from local businesses and individual supporters. We have been fortunate enough to receive Arts Council funding over the last seven years - because the innovative nature of our work in the community has been recognised and valued - but this funding is due to come to an end in 2008.

The purpose of this Special Gala, apart from giving pleasure to you and your guests, is to raise funds so that Magdala can continue to do all the things it does best - performing, coaching, supporting and inspiring people - young and old - from the local community. Every penny of profit from the event will be used wisely and well.

We do hope you’ll want to help.

Magdala

Magdala is a small, artist-led community organisation whose purpose is “To open up opportunities for people through singing to realise their potential, creating experiences which are life enhancing, life changing and life affirming”.

Magdala offers people from all backgrounds the chance to discover their voice, the experience of making music together and the challenge of doing so to the highest possible standard.

Our schools based programme, Opera Start, engages young people from the most deprived communities in creative projects that build self-belief and raise levels of aspiration.

Registered Charity No: 1108553

“Throughout my long involvement with Magdala, I have always been impressed by the team spirit and dedication of everyone I have worked with there. They have their own unique way of giving people from all backgrounds the confidence to find their voices and express their true qualities, which in turn enriches their lives”
